THE MINNESOTA DAILY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
ADVISORY BOARD
Tony Wagner
Communication Chair
Tony worked at the Minnesota Daily from 2013-2014 as an A&E reporter, business reporter, city editor and then finally the Editor-in-Chief.
“The Daily was a crucial part of my journalism education; it gave me practical skills for combing through public records, judging news value as news happens, and dealing with obstructive communications staff — no one still at the school, I’m sure. I made connections at the Daily that gave me a foot in the door at Minnesota Public Radio, where I still work today as an editor at the national business news show “Marketplace.” Also, I met my wife at the Daily (she was in the business department). I really valued my time in student media, and I’m committed to keeping the Daily strong so future students can have the same great opportunities I did.”

theo franz
Transitions Chair
Theo worked at the Minnesota Daily from 2022-2024, serving in the roles of a sports reporter and later sports editor.
“During my time, I launched The Rouser Weekly, the paper’s first sports newsletter, and initiated conversations with Big Ten Media about showcasing student-produced content. In 2024, I was honored to be named “Editor of the Year” before concluding my time at the Daily. Having graduated only recently, I understand both the challenges and the opportunities that come with being a student journalist and then taking the next step into the professional world. I hope that my experiences, from navigating the newsroom to finding a path after college, can be relatable and useful as a member of the Alumni Board.”

Kimberly Michaelson-Epstein
Development chair
Kimberly worked at the Daily 1989-1992, serving in the roles of an Ad Sales Rep for Stadium Village and the Marketing Director during her time.
“Working at the Daily was excellent training on working in a corporate structure and negotiating between departments. I also personally appreciated the low risk environment for mistakes – learning how not to do things and being humbled before it really ‘mattered’ meant a lot to me. We did everything together: crossword puzzles in ‘the lobby,’ late night ‘study sessions” at Stub & Herbs, “coupon crawls.” The Daily was also our main information source for important things like updates on Jeffrey Dahmer and the Gulf War. Being at the Daily was amongst the happiest and most cherished times of my adult life.”

Destanee ulrich
Mentorship chair
Destanee worked at the The Minnesota Daily from 2022-2026 in various roles, including Marketing Associate, Marketing Copywright Executive, Business Operations Officer and finally as the Project Manager & Officer Coordinator.
“The Minnesota Daily was truly the most influential experience in my college career, strongly shaping who I am today. The opportunities I was given from marketing research stragety, analytics reporting and developing to event planning was so rewarding I use those skills in my career now. The network of peers and colleagues I built is unparallel.”
