Important 2020 News coverage

The Minnesota Daily staff has been working nonstop to cover the community this year. We created a designated COVID-19 dashboard that’s interactive and accessible to our readers.

We’ve covered the ever-changing landscape of Dinkytown, including the closure of two Dinkytown favorites: Dinkytown Wine and Spirits and the McDonald’s. Reporters have also dug deep into the University’s policies regarding the “M” logo on alcohol products, the second round of CARES Act funding and the University’s relationship with tribal nations.

Oh, and we revived the campus classic Dr. Date, too. Our staff did a top-notch job of supplying University-specific coverage of protests over the summer following the police killing of George Floyd, and we look forward to doing the same looking toward the upcoming Chauvin trials.”

MDAA MENTORSHIP UPDATE

The Minnesota Daily Alumni Association (MDAA) launched a seven-month pilot mentorship program in October 2020.

The program is run and organized by MDAA Mentorship Chair Robin Stien and Alumni Relations Department Mentorship Associate Hannah Ihekoronye. With 18 participants, nine mentors and nine mentees, the program works to build meaningful connections between experienced alumni and MN Daily employees to foster a successful transition from student life to professional careers.

Through 1:1 monthly mentorship and professional development opportunities, like the November networking event and February Tools and Resources Fair. the mentorship program provides support, development, and connections to all participants.

MDAA FUNDRAISING UPDATE

As a student-run independent newspaper, the Minnesota Daily is so thankful to receive support from alumni and readers who give generously. Throughout the hardships of COVID-19, we were able to survive as an organization due to the donations we received. Thank you to everyone who participated in either one of our campaigns during the year of 2020. Because of your gift, our students can continue their experiences here at the Daily.
